Define your “new normal” with help from Cancer Transitions

To call cancer “life-changing” is an enormous understatement. Eventually, though, after months of what is typically challenging treatment, most cancer survivors are ready to return to a normal  life.

For many survivors, however, making the transition from active treatment to post-treatment care isn’t easy. Cancer Transitions™, a new and entirely free six-week workshop offered at St.Vincent Cancer Care, is designed to empower survivors with the knowledge and support to become active and ultimately successful participants in their long-term survivorship.

Dwayne Kniola, MSW, LCSW, an National Cancer Institute Project Coordinator at St.Vincent Cancer Care and one of the featured speakers at the workshop, notes that many cancer survivors face what they describe as a “new normal.” It can be daunting at first, he said.

“But the great thing is, participants in this program will immediately realize they aren’t alone,” Kniola said. “They’ll learn that others are experiencing similar feelings and adjustments to survivorship. They will begin to feel support and empowerment as they take more control over nutritional choices, physical exercise, and their emotions.”

Cancer Transitions provides survivors with both support and answers to their questions about life after cancer treatment. If you or someone you know is interested in registering for this free workshop, call Dwayne Kniola at (317) 338-3067, or email him at dakniola@stvincent.org today. You must register to attend.
